Yoga postures

Yoga postures on natural and sexual selection. They begin as changes or mutations in the genome, though we should note that most mutations do not evolve into adaptations, not least because the majority of them are deleterious to the organism. Every so often, however, a mutation provides the organism carrying it with an advantage in either or both of survival and reproduction. If an organism can survive better than its fellows then its chances of reproducing its genes are increased; if an organism can attract mates better than its fellows then its chances of reproducing its genes are increased; if an organism can survive better and attract mates better than its fellows then its chances of reproducing its genes are increased. Over time, organisms possessing the enhanced survival/attraction characteristics will increase in the population until all or most of its members have them to some degree. At that point (or perhaps a bit earlier) those characteristics have become adaptations. Even a cursory examination of human anatomy and physiology reveals that many of our physical characteristics are adaptations that were created over time by selection processes in relatively stable environments.
