Replenish your energy with plenty of zzzs!
The key to maintaining a healthy life, especially during the social season, is getting adequate sleep. Burning the candle at both ends can throw off your bodily functions – including hormone release, body temperature, weight control and even immunity – not to mention, it will zap your energy and decrease your ability to balance your mood, access your memory, or engage with your powers of concentration. I’d suggest giving yourself a nighttime cut-off point, so that your body has a chance to tend to your physical and mental needs, from digestion to cellular repair, while removing toxins and getting you ready for another day. You’ll be grateful that with plenty of quality snooze time, you’ll bounce into the next day with a positive and clear mindset.

Sure, it’s party season but that doesn’t mean you have to ditch your healthy habits completely. Use Saturday and Sunday to plan for the week ahead, shopping and preparing meals with delicious whole foods and scheduling in your training sessions. Aim to exercise in the morning before work, so that evening Christmas parties and social get-togethers don’t see you ditching your regular workouts altogether. Find a balance between enjoying festive indulgences like Champagne.

The end of the year is often viewed as a time of indulgence, but it can be stressful. It generally involves many commitments, some of which we want to engage in and others not so much. One of the best tips I’ve received to help with this time of year (or any time really!) is to put your own oxygen mask on first. That is, you need to look after yourself first and foremost. It may be that you need to say no to drinking alcohol at a social event, or it may mean you take time out for yourself at a family gathering. Use the social season as practice for connecting to your body and mind, and what it needs in order for you to make the most of this time.
