Yoga challenge on not that different from the views of the Hindu school of Samkhya or of the Jains with god added on. The schematic version of this typology is as in the figure on the facing page. Answers to the third question, To what?, often mix together two different aspects of the enquiry: ontology (doctrines of being or existence) and theology (doctrines about god or gods). In terms of ontology, the three most commonly adopted views are, as the diagram indicates, monism, dualism and pluralism. Ontological monism is the doctrine that at the most fundamental level of existence all is one being.
