These new paths offer not only what is claimed to be a more effective route to liberation from rebirth but also a radically different notion of how karma works. The Jain view is essentially that all acts have karmic consequences, though acts that harm other beings have more severe consequences than those which do not. The Buddhists accept this but place more emphasis on the role of intentionality. All acts have three key elements: intention, action and consequence(s).
