Tree Yoga Pose reconnects us to the earth and nature. With this Yoga Pose, we draw up the nourishment and strength from the earth and generously offer ourselves back to the world. It makes us grounded and rooted.

1 Stand with your feet hip-distance apart, creating a stable base. On an exhale, soften your knees and release your tailbone down as you engage your thighs. Shift your weight onto your left foot and draw your right knee into your chest. (Feel free to stand at a wall and place your left hand there for support if you need it.)

2 Draw the sole of your right foot to the inside of your left inner thigh or calf, avoiding the knee joim Roll your right knee open to the right from your hip joint. Place your hands together at your heart in prayer and balance for a breath or two, gazing at a still point in front of you.

3 Continue dropping your tailbone and engaging the left thigh. Lift up your lower belly for inner stability, and try reaching your arms up like branches reaching up into the sky.

4 Stay for 5 breaths before releasing your right foot and arms down into Mountain Yoga Pose Pose, and switch sides.

VARIATION

For Extended Tree Yoga Pose, after finding your balance in Tree Yoga Pose, place your left hand on your left hip and reach for your big right toe with your right hand. Extend your right leg wide out to the right and extend your left arm out to the left along with your gaze for balance. Press through your left foot as you lift through the crown of your head. Hold for 3 to 5 breaths, and switch sides.
