Tree asana on The assumption behind this scheme was that these philosophical schools (darsana) were essentially in agreement with each other, an assumption that has confused many a Western student since an unbiased reading quickly reveals that they are not. Theoretically at least, all the darsanas accept three primary sources or bases of knowledge (pramana): perception (pratyaksa); inference (anumana) and testimony (sabda), though they vary considerably in the emphasis they put on each. The six darsanas are: 1.
