I have recently returned from working on an amazing fashion shoot in Dominica, so while I was there it made perfect sense to test out the more natural forms of SPF’s that are available on the market. So many chemicals are added to sunscreen that it can’t be good for the skin, especially when you think about the amount you have to apply whilst being on a week’s holiday – so organic sunscreens are definitely the way forward!
I tested the products on myself and the models from the shoot, hoping that they, especially, would not burn as the temperatures reached almost 30 degrees.
SUN PROTECTION FOR OUR BEAUTY Photo Gallery
I’ve always been a firm believer in applying that first layer of protection in the morning before breakfast, and really letting the cream soak into my skin- which ensures the ultimate protection before exposing ourselves to the sun’s harmful rays.
First up was the Lovea Natural Sunscreen Spray which can be used on both the face and body. Normally the higher SPF factor the whiter the cream is, which can leave a white trace on the body, but both myself and the model found it absorbed into the skin really well and left no residue, and what’s more, no burning occurred despite being exposed to the midday sun. £12.99 available from feelunique.com, mypure.co.uk, WholeFoods and Planet Organic.
LOVEA AFTER SUN LOTION
For sun exposed skin, smoother yourself in this for the perfect end to the perfect day of basking in the sunshine. It has a great texture, rubs in well and keeps your skin feeling great for hours after. It also contains coconut oil for a wonderful holiday smell and this was one of my favourites while away. If you can. keep it in the fridge as it’s even better applying it cold for extra soothing! £8.99 available from feelunique.com.
AHAVA SUN PROTECTION ANTI-AGING MOISTURISING SPRAY SPF 15 AND SPF 30
I found both products to be extremely waterproof, and they retain their SPF factors even after splashing around in the pool for 80-minutes. The SPF 30 is also suitable for children which means no carrying extra bottles of sunscreen for the little ones. Admittedly the SPF 15 is too low for a tropical climate such as Dominica, but with my olive skin, no burning occurred. These Ahava products also contain Dead Sea minerals, seaweed, essential vitamins and moisturising agents.
