The apricot tree originates from the Himalayas and other parts of temperate Asia and is now grown in many regions of Europe and other parts of the world. It is a small, hardy tree with an abundance of white flowers, tinged with dusky red, that appear in early spring. The oil is extracted by pressing the seed kernel of its juicy fruit, the apricot. The oil is clear, slightly yellow, light and easily absorbed. It is high in polyunsaturated fatty acids and vitamins A and C.
The light texture of apricot kernel oil makes it a popular choice for massage. It benefits all skin types but is especially recommended for dry, sensitive, mature or ageing skin. It relieves the itching and swelling associated with eczema and is excellent for face and head massage.
